A custom Knife for a loved one
This customer wanted a high quality Mother's Day gift to show their love and gratitude to Mum!
I was privileged to create this hand forged 400mm K-Tip Guyoto (the Japanese version of a French Chef Knife, with a pointed end).
The blade is a 210mm "Go-Mai" (meaning "5-layers").
The core or cutting edge is made of "Chef's Cut" speciality knife steel, designation "26C3", which is the Western version of Shirogami steel used in handmade Japanese culinary knives.
The outer layers are copper and 304 stainless steel, used to increase ductility and rust prevention.
The Wa-style handle is made from stabilised Elm and Blackwood with a copper spacer /ends to match the blade.
